History

Sanur has a lot of historical value and that is evident through a written record of the island's existence, the Blanjong Inscription. This 177cm high stone pillar-shaped inscription was found near Sanur Kauh around 913 AD which is believed to be issued by a Balinese King named Sri Kesari Warmadewa and mentions the oldest written history of Bali. Now, you can see this historical evidence directly at Blanjong Temple. 

Sanur Beach also witnessed the landing of the army in Bali in 1906 during the Puputan War. In the war, all Balinese people led by King Badung VII, I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung, chose to preserve the tradition of puputan or all-out war against the Dutch.

The journey from Ngurah Rai Airport can then be continued by using land transportation for approximately 30 minutes to finally arrive in Sanur.
